BA (Hons) Final Major Project
For my final year project I decided that I wanted to design a breast cancer unit. My main influence in this decision was my close familial ties to the disease as both my grandmother from my mothers side and my grandfather from my dads side of my family have died from the disease, thus I felt that I wanted to give something back to the community and learn more about the disease.
When starting the project I knew what goals I wanted to aim for and what I needed to do to achieve them. To effectively realise my goals I needed to visit various sites and professionals related to cancer care; these included architects, lead nurses and consultants as well as hospitals such as Guy's hospital in London and a breast imaging unit at Princess Anne's in Southampton. Initially I hit some brick walls in regards to Hospital visits but was lucky enough to be put in touch with the architect who designed the teenage cancer trust unit at Southampton general hospital, after this the ball started rolling and was able to get more cancer unit visits.
The files and renders below are the final outcome from my research, visits and meetings.
